CARE AND REPAIR
TO LOVE THEM EVEN LONGER
Our clothes and gear are designed to last a very, very long time. And the more you use them, the more you'll grow attached to them. Your Eco-Shell jacket doesn't just protect you from the rain; it warms your heart when it pours on your hike. Your down jacket doesn't just keep you warm: it's the best friend at night by the campfire. And of course, your tent is there to shelter you, but that's not all. No five-star hotel will ever match the views it offers. All the magical moments you've experienced with them will come back to you every time you catch a glimpse of them in the closet. Believe us, for all that, it's definitely worth taking care of them.
GENERAL WASHING TIPS
Always start by checking the care label instructions. As a general rule, we recommend washing your gear only when necessary. Machine washing causes wear and tear on your clothes and sleeping bags, and strains zippers, Velcro, and other hardware. Machine washing also uses a lot of water and energy, making it bad for the environment.
Instead, we recommend hand-cleaning dirty areas with warm water, mild soap or detergent, and a sponge. You can even simply hang your garment or sleeping bag somewhere to air it out.
If you choose to machine wash, washing at 30°C uses less energy than washing at 40°C. Also, use a detergent that's suitable for your garment, and don't use fabric softener. This leaves a waxy residue on your garment that can affect its functionality, such as its ability to absorb moisture.
Likewise, machine drying—which is strongly discouraged for some of our products—is harsh on your clothes. Therefore, whenever possible, hang your garment—down being an exception—to dry, preferably outside.
STORAGE TIPS
There are Fjällräven products that are sure to become your favorites. You'll use them almost every day. But then there are the others—tents, sleeping bags, or heavy down jackets—these are your treasures. It's essential to store them in the right conditions. It's essential to store them in the right conditions. Stored in a damp, poorly ventilated place, your gear is sure to mold. Always choose dry, well-ventilated locations, away from direct light and heat. For some products, such as Eco-Shell and G-1000 clothing, you may need to re-impregnate them after taking them out of the closet.
